JENNIFER HOLLIDAY DUET WAS HILARIOUS!

Check out the latest MikeyTALK episode!

GUUUUURL U CRAYYYYYDuring the 2012 American Idol finale, Jennifer Holliday and Jessica Sanchez sung a duet performance of the song ‘And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going’ from the Broadway production of ‘Dreamgirls.’ But this was a very special performance because Holliday was noted making funny, hilarious facial expressions. Even judges Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson had hilarious initial reactions.

Later that night, Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 11. This made many Filipino fans for #teamjessica pretty upset.

And of course, the Internet EXPLODED with Twitter trends, memes, and GIFs on Tumblr! Here’s one of my favorites to the right here…

What did YOU think about the Jennifer Holliday performance? Funny? Cacophony? Scary? Over-the-top? Leave me a comment and I’ll feature it in the next MikeyTALK episode! :)

COLLEGE LAUNDRY ROOM PROBLEMS

When you go to college, you have to do laundry on your own. Unfortunately, there are only so many washing machines and dryers available for one to use in a typical dormitory hall…

People are also inconsiderate. They tend to “forget” that their laundry is in these machines and come late to move their items out. Is it such a difficult concept for people to simply set a cell phone alarm? The world would be such a better place. These are simply college laundry room problems.

Primadonna

Mikey's Song of the Week

Have you heard of Marina and the Diamonds? Maybe not. Well, to start Marina is a famous Welsh singer who sings music that varies from keyboard ballads to newer-sounding New Wave songs. So are the “Diamonds” her band or something? No. It’s just her. It’s a common misconception. As Marina has said herself, ”I’m Marina. You are the diamonds.”

So how did I stumble upon Marina? I give credit to one of my favorite YouTube vloggers, Joey Graceffa. He recently did a video where he talked about his “favorite things” for the month, and this song was his pick for the past month.

I took a listen. The first time, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t crazy about it, but something made me hit repeat. Soon I realized that it was the only song I had listened to for the past 10 minutes or so.

Then I bought it on iTunes and added it to my playlists.

Take a listen for yourself! It sounds classy yet new. Definitely catchy.

What do you think of Marina and the Diamonds? Leave me a comment!

Finals Week Madness!

So much has happened that it took me a while to realize that I haven’t posted this video here. I’ve also been working on the Boston Trip vlogs, so once they are all edited and uploaded, I’ll put them all into a single post here on the site.

Zero Gravity

Mikey's Song of the Week

I actually discovered this song somewhat unintentionally. I think I was watching the ‘Starships’ music video when I saw this in the related videos bar, or something like that.

So I clicked and watched the video, and what a pleasant surprise, another decent pop song! A less mainstream one nonetheless.

The singer, Kerli, isn’t exactly from around here. Well, she now resides in Los Angeles, but she’s originally from Estonia (which is in Europe). According to the all-mighty Wikipedia, she was discovered and signed-on by L.A. Reid. I really like her voice and her style. A lot of people keep comparing her to Gaga, but I don’t see the exact resemblance at all. I think her style more-so reflects Alice in Wonderland, at least in this music video.

This song is danceable, but the beat doesn’t not overshadow her vocals one bit. She can sing, quite well.

So what do you think of Kerli? Got any other Song Pick suggestions? Leave me a comment! :)

Spicy Asian Snack Attack!

These Korean snack chip-things are supposedly spicy… O_o

Call Me Maybe

Mikey's Song of the Week

This song has been in my head for about more than a week now. I first got exposed to it through a music video a frat on my college campus posted. Ever since its posting, the view count has surged on YouTube.

The song I’m talking about here is the surprise Canadian hit single “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.

Jepsen is so adorable. She looks like shes in her teens, but she’s actually 26! She got 3rd place on the 5th season of Canadian Idol, which also reinforces the fact that most people of Idol fame don’t necessarily have to win the show to be successful.

This song is very Mikey-appropriate. Bubbly, perfect pop. A good song for that transition from spring to summer. The song actually was released as a single back in September last year, but only recently has it been bumped up to the Top Ten in the Billboard Hot 100 charts here in the States.

So you should take a listen for yourself! First, I’ll include the official music video. It’s cute. She’s cute. Ahhh! Squee~!

Then I’ll post the video the college frat created below the official one. Enjoy! And… call me, maybe ;)

Derrel VS. Mochi Ice Cream

So Suki, Derrel, and I went to H-Mart which is a Korean Asian supermarket. I got some seaweed, microwavable rice, and mochi ice cream. Yes, mochi ice cream. Good stuff.

One time Kristen brought over just plain mochi once, and when Derrel tried it, he hated it. But when you apply ice cream to the gooey stuff, it changes the taste drastically. Would Derrel like it though…?

I feel like if I explain anything more about this vlog, it’ll ruin it. Watch it! :D

Do you like mochi ice cream? Ever try it before?

Feel So Close – Song Pick of the Week

Mikey's Song of the Week

Before I begin, yes, I did buy Nicki Minaj’s new album. Yes, I do love it. Yes, there are many songs I could have chosen as  ‘Song Pick,’ but I didn’t. I feel like my pick of ‘Starships’ wasn’t too long ago, and I don’t want to swamp my blog with Nicki.

Ha, what do you know, I have Pandora playing in another tab as I type this post, and the song pick I chose for this week has started playing.

Introducing: ‘Feel So Close’ by Calvin Harris.

That name seems very familiar, doesn’t it? Maybe you’ll recall him from the recent Rihanna single ‘We Found Love (In A Hopeless Place)?” Yup, he was ‘featured’ on that track. Wait, but wasn’t Rihanna the only person who sang in that song? That’s the thing, Harris is a DJ. A Scottish DJ. (He’s also a songwriter and music producer.)

But he can sing, too.

So on his own single, he sings and provides a very catchy DJ-esque beat that serves as the lyric-less chorus. It’s also a very clean song, something that the Mikey Dunn always appreciates.

When you listen to this song, you cannot help but picture movement. I think that’s why we chose that image of a cowboy and his horse as the album art. A little perplexing at first, but when you take a first listen, it makes sense.

After a recent deluge of David Guetta in mainstream music, it’s nice to have another DJ on the scene.

NYC Dinner Cruise! (Part 2)

Part 2 of the Dinner Cruise vlog includes exploring outside the ship and views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. And we’ll throw in some dancing, too. :D

Ever been on a dinner cruise before? Ours was on the Hudson, where was yours…? :)
